Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger today declared that the Gunners would not be signing Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, according to the Leicester Mercury.

Speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow night’s Europa League clash with Red Star Belgrade, the Frenchman simply stated “No!” when asked if there was a deal to be made for the Algerian international in the January transfer window.

26-year-old Mahrez was high on the Gunners transfer hitlist in 2016 but opted to stay at the King Power Stadium instead. Indeed, last summer Arsenal turned their attention to Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, 21, only failing to secure a £92m deal when the French international couldn’t be persuaded to join the Premier League outfit.

Interest has dwindled in Mahrez with Roma the only club to contact the Foxes during the summer with a serious bid. Recently, Marseille let it be known that they were keen on the player and would be willing to sign him for a fee of £25m but so far, Leicester have refused to bite.

Recently appointed, the Foxes manager Claude Puel made it clear that Mahrez is a key part of his plans. At a recent press conference, he claimed that he will try to “seduce” the Algerian into staying in the East Midlands.
