In case you don’t remember, Mesut Ozil continues to play for Arsenal. However, the former Germany international has been getting little to no playing time at The Gunners this season. And as a result, he could be close to complete a drastic change of scenery.
According to a report from The Guardian, the former Real Madrid and Wolfsburg playmaker is reportedly considering a move to the MLS. Arsenal want him gone, Unai Emery does not want him in the club anymore, and Ozil wants to earn first-team football as soon possible. Right now, a move stateside doesn’t sound like the worst possible scenario.
Both Inter Miami – a franchise that will debut during the 2020 season – and DC United are keen on the talented attacking midfielder. While Özil would be Inter’s best player and the face of the franchise in 2020, things would be different in DCU. He would arrive to the country’s capitol city looking to replace Wayne Rooney, who thrived for the club during 2019. Those are some big shoes to fill.
The Guardian are suggesting that Ozil has been hoping that Emery would be sacked, but in the absence of a managerial change he is considering his options. And clearly the MLS has emerged as the potential top destination.
