Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez, 21, rejected reports that he will sign for Real Madrid next summer a Daily Mirror report claims.
Signed from Ajax for £42m during the summer, the central defender has caught the eye with accomplished performances in his debut Premier League season. Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is impressed by the youngster, claiming “he’s one of the best today but has potential to improve a lot more.”
The Colombia international took full advantage of the gap in the team created by Toby Alderweireld’s injury and despite the Belgian’s return to full fitness, is still one of the first names on Pochettino’s teamsheet.
Sanchez is enjoying his time at Wembley with regular first-team football holding more allure for him than the money which he could earn elsewhere. The door wasn’t slammed shut entirely, however.
“As big as Madrid is, no matter how big a team are, that has won what they have won, if the conditions are not favourable for me, unfortunately, I cannot accept,” he assuredly stated.
That will be music to Tottenham’s ears. The club’s wage structure is notoriously parsimonious by elite club levels and the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United are expected to swoop next summer for Harry Kane, 24, and Dele Alli, 21.
To know one of their current crop puts more store in playing than wages is something of a relief to Pochettino.
