Steven N’Zonzi made a name for himself last season, and the French star became one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe while playing for Sevilla. His spectacular season was going to make him a hot commodity in the transfer market, and that is exactly what has happened.
We reported several days ago that Juventus was keen to sign the former Stoke City player, but now they have competition. Inter Milan have entered the battle to land him as well, and signs indicate Inter would be the team that is closer to land him this summer.
The main problem seems to be the transfer fee, as Sevilla are reluctant to let N’Zonzi go for anything less than his €40 million release clause. Juventus seemed to be leading the race to sign him, but Inter seem to be serious in their intention to land him as well. Luciano Spalletti has approved the signing, and it would take place as soon as Joao Mario finalises his move to PSG, something that should happen sooner than later.
Even though he is not known for being a very technical player, N’Zonzi turned out to be a key member of Sevilla’s impressive season last year. His fate all but points to Italy, and it seems Inter and Juventus will not stop battling until any of the two can sign the coveted playmaker.
