La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of Portuguese international Gelson Martinez.
The highly-rated winger has put pet to paper on a six-year deal with Atleti after cancelling his contract with Sporting CP.
The exciting 23-year-old prospect leaves the Portuguese side on a termination deal following an attack on the players at the club’s training ground. The Portuguese giants have endured a difficult season which saw club president Bruno de Carvalho launch a public attack on players via social media and supporters interrupt training and smash up the changing rooms.
Martins was one of nine players to cancel his contract as a result of the violence and has now chosen Atletico Madrid as his new destination.
Sporting CP insist they are owed some sort of a compensation and initially demanded €40 million for the player before the incidents occurred.
There is no denying Atletico Madrid grabbed a proper gem in Gelson Martins.
