RB Leipzig could be in line to face a massive exodus of players in the coming months.
Naby Keita agreed to a deal to join Liverpool next season, Timo Werner has been linked with some of the best teams in the world, and there is a lot of interest to sign top prospect Dayot Upamecano. But the latest player that might leave the side is no other than their goalkeeper, Peter Gulacsi.
According to several reports, scouts from two Premier League clubs watched him in action during Leipzig’s 2-0 defeat against Bayern Munich this past Saturday. And those two clubs would reportedly be Chelsea and Arsenal, as each are in the market looking to bolster their depth between the posts.
The Gunners, on one hand, are beginning to identify new goalkeeping targets that can serve as long-term replacement to Petr Cech, who is 35 years old and in the final 18 months of his current deal. Arsenal do have David Ospina on the squad, but the management wants another goalkeeper that can battle the starting role with the Colombia international.
On the other hand, Chelsea are also considering their goalkeeping options considering Thibaut Courtois has not signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge. The fact that the Belgian is reportedly open to a move to Real Madrid doesn’t make things easier for either party.
Both clubs are expected to keep close tabs on Gulacsi in the coming months. He has been one of the best shotstoppers in the Bundesliga over the past two years and, since he spent five years with Liverpool in the past, he qualifies as a homegrown player. That’s certainly a huge plus.
The 27-year-old Hungary international has been in impressive form for Leipzig so far this season, conceding 11 goals in nine Bundesliga games while starting all three of the club’s Champions League matches to date.
