Even though the transfer market remains closed, Real Madrid are already drawing lines over what they want to do next season on the signings department. And Los Merengues are set to make their second signing looking towards the 2019-20 campaign.
The Madrid-based side are to make their second signing for the upcoming season. Following the reported deal with FC Porto defender Eder Militao, now the Santiago Bernabeu outfit look set to sign Lyon left-back Ferland Mendy. The 23-year-old is coming off an impressive season with the French club, and Madrid want to snap him before it’s too late.
This deal could have an immediate impact on the club, since he could get promoted to the starting left-back role in case Marcelo ends up leaving the side this summer. In the best-case scenario for Madrid, Mendy would act as competition for the 31-year-old Brazilian since manager Zinedine Zidane does not rate Sergio Reguilón very highly.
Mendy is an attacking-minded full-back who would fit Zidane’s playing style and, barring the differences related to quality, he has a similar playing style to Marcelo’s. Plus, since he’s only 23, Mendy could be a regular name on Madrid’s defensive line for years to come. This signing certainly follows the same path as the one of Militao, who joins Madrid as a 21-year-old.
