Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez will be used as a makeweight as the Red Devils try to land Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal claims La Cuarta.

The Chilean news outlet reports that the Old Trafford hierarchy is unimpressed by his performances following his move from Arsenal in January, with his value being questioned given his high wages.

Vidal is valued at £52.5m while United are believed to have attributed a cost of £35m to his compatriot when they signed him. Henryk Mikhitaryan, 27, went to the Emirates in a straight player swap.

Bayern was heavily linked with signing Sanchez during the summer of 2017 but dropped out of the running when the 29-year-old’s wage demands became known.

Combined with a fee of more than £60m being demanded by Arsenal, the perennial Bundesliga champions declared that the proposed deal did not make financial sense even for the wealthiest of German clubs.

Despite this, United hope to tempt Bayern into a player swap with Vidal earning £12m for the next four years.
