The 25-year-old Swede drew admiring glances from Europe’s elite clubs after a sparkling debut season in the Bundesliga as Leipzig finished runners-up to Bayern Munich. It was the Red Bull-backed club’s first top flight campaign and ended with them qualifying directly into the group stage of next season’s Champions League.
Forsberg joined the then-2.Bundesliga club in 2015 from Swedish giants, Malmo. Since then, he has become an integral member of their squad and there was disappointment earlier in the summer when he claimed he would be interested in a move to AC Milan or Manchester United.
Back with the squad, Forsberg clarified those comments. He had he said, answered a “journalist’s question truthfully” and that had any club – including Bayern Munich – been mentioned, he would have answered the same.
The Swede claimed he is “fully motivated and focused and ideally want to play an even better season with RB than the last one.”
When Forsberg’s earlier comments were publicised, the RB management immediately put out a statement denying the Swede would be sold. His latest comments will come as some relief to supporters.
