According to talkSPORT, Uruguay international Matias Vecino is a transfer target for Chelsea this summer.

The 26-year-old Inter Milan midfielder is currently with the national squad at this summer’s World Cup and has. so far, featured in all three of Uruguay’s matches. The Celeste face Portugal in the Round of Sixteen having been the first nation to qualify for the knockout phase.

With former Napoli boss, Maurizio Sarri, set to take over at Stamford Bridge in the next fortnight, Chelsea are expected to launch a series of transfer raids on Serie A.

While Sarri joked about Gonzalo Higuain, 30, being a potential target, the Blues have long held an interest in Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly, 26, and were linked with a move for Dries Mertens, 31, at the coach’s former club Napoli last summer.

Vecino moved to the San Siro from Fiorentina last summer in a £20m deal when he signed a contract until 2021. That puts the Nerazzurri in a strong negotiating position if they are minded to sell a player who made 29 Serie A appearances last season, scoring three goals.

The midfielder has 25 caps to his name with one goal, scored against Trinidad and Tobago in a 3 – 1 friendly win during May 2016.
