Kai Havertz is highly rated as one of the top prospects in Europe. And the Bayer Leverkusen star gained lots of interest this summer, as many teams were keen to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen.
This Monday, the club’s sporting director, Rudi Völler, confirmed something that many suspected during the summer – Kai Havertz was on the radar of Bayern Munich. The reigning Bundesliga champions were looking to sign the talented youngster, as they saw him as one of the best long-term replacements for Arjen Robben, who retired at the end of last season.
However, Völler confirmed Leverkusen rejected any potential offers for the 20-year-old attacking midfielder since he was not for sale. In fact, some reports even claimed the Bavarian giants offered €90m for the versatile midfielder, but in the end that was not true. Other top sides – such as Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United – were heavily linked with Havertz as well, but Völler didn’t confirm any of those approaches.
In the end, the star playmaker remains at Leverkusen and is heavily expected to remain there until the end of the 2019-20 season. But if Germany have a strong performance in the European Championships next summer – providing they qualify – then a move elsewhere could definitively be on the cards for the exciting prospect.
