FC Barcelona have been one of the most active teams in the market this season. But Los Blaugranas are not done dealing yet.
Barca confirmed a club-record deal potentially worth €145 million for Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele on Friday. The France international became the club’s fifth signing of the summer after Marlon Santos, Gerard Deulofeu, Nelson Semedo and Paulinho. But they are not done on the market, and apparently they remain active looking for options to improve the current squad.
Their biggest target is Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, but there is no clarity on whether Barca will be able to sign him or not. Barcelona are 1/1 to land the coveted playmaker, though, so they are yet to give up on his pursuit.
For what is worth, Barca’s manager Ernesto Valverde said he is open to add new signings before the window shuts on August 31 but always with the aim of forming a competitive team.
“We hope that when Aug. 31 arrives and the transfer market closes we have a more competitive team,” Valverde told a news conference when asked about the subject, although he did not mention any names. “I will work with the players I have got, but we hope to have an even better team and we’re open [to signings] if we have a chance, that’s clear.”
Jean-Michaël Seri, Angel Di Maria, Christian Eriksen, Paulo Dybala and Eden Hazard are some of the players that have been linked with a potential switch to Camp Nou in the coming days, while Andre Gomes, Arda Turan and even Andres Iniesta have been mentioned as possible exits in case Barca need some extra transfer funds.
