Manchester United and West Ham United both expressed an interest in previous summers with reports claiming a move to Old Trafford was agreed. They, however, proved false, and with that, the dreams of the young man died.
West Ham got cold feet in January when Anderlecht quoted a fee of £20m, some £13m more than the Hammers were willing to pay.
The 23-year-old is desperate to leave the Brussels-based club next summer and is believed to be a long-standing target of Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
Capped four times by Belgium, Dendoncker is a versatile midfielder who is capable of playing in the centre of defence as well as the holding role in the centre of the pitch. It makes him a valuable target for Palace boss Roy Hodgson whose team has been ravaged by injuries at the tale end of the season.
The south London club are keen to strengthen their squad to avoid a repeat of this season’s relegation battle in 2018/19. Promised significant funds for investment, the former England boss may be tempted into looking more closely at the highly-rated Dendoncker.
