As days advance, it seems increasingly harder to imagine Thibaut Courtois extending his current contract at Chelsea.
The Belgian goalkeeper is reportedly unhappy at Stamford Bridge, and is reportedly looking to leave the club before his contract runs out in 2019. Real Madrid have been linked with a move for the world-class shot-stopped, but Los Merengues are set to face stiff competition to land the coveted goalkeeper.
According to several reports, Juventus have also entered the race to acquire Courtois. The Serie A champions view the former Atletico Madrid star as the ideal long-term replacement for Gianluigi Buffon, and he has climbed to the top of the team’s shortlist over other alternatives such as Jan Oblak and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Courtois’ contract runs out in 2019 and he has stalled on signing a new deal due to the increasing transfer speculation surrounding him. Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have been monitoring Courtois’ situation closely, and the fact that Juventus have also joined the race should only complicate things further. For what is worth, it has been rumored that Courtois wants £210,000-a-week before he puts pen to paper on a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
Juventus may look to capitalise on Courtois’ uncertain future in London, especially if we consider that Buffon might retire at the end of the current season. By all accounts, expect Juventus to become a big player on the Courtois sweepstakes in the coming weeks.
