The future of Nabil Fekir has become quite an enigma in recent weeks. The talented playmaker is currently featuring for France in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but right now no one knows which club he will be defending in the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Right now Fekir plays for Lyon, but he was on the verge of joining Liverpool before the move collapsed. Other Premier League sides have expressed interest in the 24-year-old attacking midfielder, but there are reports that now Real Madrid could make a move for him, too.

In fact, it was none other than Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas, who revealed that Los Merengues are indeed keen to make a push to acquire Fekir. Aulas said Real Madrid are about to enter the race, and would become favourites to sign him if that’s the case.

The head of Lyon said he had given the green light for Fekir to be sold to Liverpool, but ultimately the deal fell through. That allowed other teams to express interest, and Julen Lopetegui – newest Real Madrid head coach – is decided to make a splash for the Lyon star, who registered 23 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances (across all competitions) for Lyon last term.

At this point, virtually anything could happen. But don’t be surprised if Fekir ends up playing with Real Madrid once the 2018-19 season kicks in.
