Liverpool move for £25m Sadio Mane, with Joe Allen set to leave

Liverpool are ready to meet Southampton’s £25m valuation of forward, Sadio Mane, 24. Jurgen Klopp is desperate to revive the Reds fortunes and needs to sign a reliable striker this summer to do so.

Daniel Sturridge, 26, has continuing fitness worries whilst Belgian international, Christian Benteke, 25, has suffered an alarming drop in form during his Anfield career.

Mane is keen to leave the Saints, who remain managerless following Ronald Koeman’s departure for Everton. Liverpool’s previous raids on Southampton may cost them dear this time around with the south coast club determined not to sell their striker cheaply.

It’s familiar recruiting ground for the Reds having signed Nathaniel Clyne, 25, Adam Lallana, 28, Ricky Lambert, 34, and Dejan Lovren, 26, from the Saints in the past. With a mixed record of success in those dealings, Klopp has taken his time in deciding whether Mane will be a success at Anfield.

The Senegalese forward has attracted a lot of attention this summer but Liverpool are the first club to make a concrete effort to sign him. They found goals hard to come by in last season’s Premier League, scoring just 63 times as they finished outside of the Europa League places in 8th.

In the meantime, Klopp has called time on midfielder, Joe Allen, 26, Anfield career. The Welsh international, a bit-part player for club but starring as Wales progress at Euro 2016, is available for £10m with Swansea City keen to re-sign the midfielder they sold to Liverpool for £15m four years ago.
