Stop me if you have heard this before, but Karim Benzema could be on his way out of Real Madrid during the upcoming transfer window. The French forward got off to a solid start to the season, but he is on a terrible slump once again and it seems Madrid are officially over with him.
In fact, things have gotten so bad that the 30-year-old striker is reportedly willing to accept a pay cut to ease a move away from Real Madrid at the end of the season. He might end up leaving in January, but the French would prefer to see out the 2018/19 season with Madrid, and then leave elsewhere.
Benzema has featured in all nine league matches this season for Los Blancos and has scored four goals, but he is no longer considered the first-choice solution upfront. Manager Julen Lopetegui – who is under heavy scrutiny himself – did not include him in Los Blancos’ starting XI for each of the club’s last two matches in La Liga.
He’s already having potential suitors, though, as both Juventus and Tottenham are said to be interested in making a move for the French star. But since he’s not an upgrade over the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo or Harry Kane, he would likely be a back-up in either of those teams.
The four-time Champions League winner’s current contract with Real Madrid expires in 2021. But as things stand right now, he might not even get to next summer with the squad.
