PSG Close On Alexis Sanchez Deal

Paris St Germain are preparing a £70m bid for Arsenal striker, Alexis Sanchez, according to the Daily Mirror. The 28-year-old Chilean international is on his way back to London with the paper claiming he has stopped off in Paris for a meeting with PSG to discuss a move to the former French champions.

Alexis has made no secret of his desire to not just play Champions League football but also win the trophy. Arsenal are not in a position to challenge for the English title, let alone be crowned the best in Europe, much to Sanchez’s frustration.

The Gunners have previously claimed the Chilean is not for sale and would be held to the last year of his contract, despite being able to walk away on a free transfer next summer. Arsène Wenger reiterated his belief that the club had no option but to keep the striker, while on tour in Australia and China.

Sanchez was a pivotal member of the FA Cup winning side in 2017, scoring the opening goal as Arsenal beat Chelsea 2 – 1 in the final. However, he couldn’t prevent the Gunners sliding into the Europa League places as the club’s Premier League campaign disintegrated last winter.

With wages demands exceeding £350,000 per week, suitors are thin on the ground. Bayern were interested by officially ended their pursuit when James Rodriguez, 26, joined on a two-year loan deal. Until PSG showed interest, Manchester City appeared to have a clear run at prising the player away from north London.

Now it seems Arsenal have got the bidding war they would prefer.
