Currently with Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning, Italian media reports claim the 27-year-old has been placed on the transfer list less than a year after leaving Shakhtar Donetsk.
Liverpool offered £25m for Teixeira in January 2016, in what was earmarked to be Jurgen Klopp’s first marquee signing. The deal fell through despite the Brazilian making his interest in moving to Merseyside well-known.
Shortly after, Jiangsu set a Chinese transfer record when they signed him for €50m. For a player who despite being capped at junior international levels, has never been called into Brazil’s senior squad, it was a staggering fee.
However, the appointment of former England boss Fabio Capello as head coach in June 2017 is cutting short Teixeira’s time in China. The Italian has made it clear the midfielder has no part to play in his plans and can leave in January.
The Merseyside club faces competition for his services. Revitalised Inter Milan are also on the lookout for midfielders and are prepared to rival the Reds for Teixeira if their interest in Manchester United’s Henrik Mkhitaryan comes to nought.
