Premier League Everton are being heavily backed to sign Celtic striker Moussa Dembele in the January transfer window, a Liverpool Echo report claims.

Bookmakers rate the Toffees chances of success at 12/1 in prising the 21-year-old away from Parkhead eighteen months after moving to Scottish football in a £3m deal from Fulham.

According to David Moss, the former head of scouting at Celtic is reported by the newspaper as stating Everton contacted him for a character reference, which Moss gave in glowing terms: “Don’t even blink, don’t even think about it, sign him – it’s a no-brainer.”

40 goals in 67 appearances for the Bhoys is a phenomenal return, even taking into account the Glasgow club’s dominance of the league. Their record-breaking 69 game unbeaten run came to a crushing end in a 4 – 0 defeat at Heart of Midlothian last weekend.

Speculation over his future is rife, with Chelsea the favoured destination at 8/1 with Fiorentina a surprise at 10/1.

Both of the English clubs are desperate to reinforce the forward line with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte concerned about a lack of cover for Alvaro Morata, 25. Everton though, hope that the prospect of regular first-team football will persuade Dembele that his future lies in the north-west.
