They may be one of Europe’s big fish when it comes to signing the best footballers in the world but Barcelona continually struggle to retain their most promising youngsters. According to talkSPORT, another starlet is being courted by the Catalans peers across Europe.
Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Juventus are all hot on the trail of Mateu Jaume, who shone during Spain’s recent run to the Under-17 World Cup final in India.
The 17-year-old came close to moving to Bayern Munich last summer but the deal fell through, despite the right-back agreeing terms with the German giants.
Now a wider audience is taking a deep interest in the young defender’s progress. Under Spanish law, the Blaugrana cannot sign him on a professional contract until he is 18-years-old. Countries such as England, Italy, and Germany are less stringent in their employment laws which gives their clubs a distinct advantage over their La Liga rivals.
Despite this, Barcelona are keen to hold more talks with their young protege in the hope of persuading him that his future lies at the Camp Nou.
With Lionel Messi’s contract also still to be decided, these are testing times at both ends of the playing spectrum for Barcelona.
