Serie A giants Inter Milan know they must improve their midfield heading into the upcoming season. There is decent depth with names such as Roberto Gagliardini, Borja Valero and Matias Vecino, but the team needs to add even more quality to a key role in the middle of the pitch.
Therefore, the Serie A side has already identified two targets to improve their midifeld depth. According to a report from Il Corriere dello Sport, Inter are keeping close tabs on Mateo Kovacic, from Real Madrid, and William Carvalho, from Sporting Lisbon.
Out of these two, Kovacic seems like the most likely alternative since he is struggling to get regular playing time at Real Madrid. The Croatian international remains quite an interesting player and there is no question he would be keen to leave the Santiago Bernabeu outfit in a search for more first-team minutes.
On the other hand, William Carvalho came close to join West Ham United this past summer but the talks didn’t progress properly. He would add some much-needed muscle and toughness to the middle of Inter’s pitch, and he also has a great deal of experience since he is an international with Portugal.
It has to be noted though that Inter Milan will have to raise some cash through player sales before they can recruit new footballers in order to avoid FIFA Fair Play sanctions.
