Arsenal are hoping to land an Ajax double this summer with the capture of Marc Overmars as technical director and defender Matthijs de Ligt writes the Daily Mail.

While the Gunners are expected to strike a deal to bring Overmars back to North London after his successful stint in the Ajax hierarchy, 19-year-old de Ligt is a taller order.

Barcelona are his club of choice while Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City are also keen on the central defender. The trio can all offer Champions League football but at Arsenal, de Ligt may get his chance in the first XI more regularly.

Other interest reportedly comes from Juventus who recently completed the signing of Aaron Ramsey, 28, from Arsenal on a free transfer.

De Ligt is once again earning plaudits for his performances this season as he captained Ajax to the last sixteen of the Champions League. A 2 – 1 home defeat to Real Madrid left the Dutch side with a mountain to climb in the second leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Overmars, meanwhile, is once again on the Gunners radar as they look for stability behind the scenes. Head of recruitment Sven Mislintat departed with Arsenal keen to bring the former flying winger back to the club. Overmars record in finding stars is often unsung but with the Premier League club looking to improve their self-financing model. A repeat of finding a player similar to Frenkie de Jong, 21, who will net the Dutch club a profit of £90m this summer, wouldn’t go amiss in North London.
