Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben is not going to hang up his cleats any time soon.
The 34-year-old winger has told Sportbuzzer that he has no plans to retire despite the fact that his current deal with Bayern Munich expires this summer. Chances are Robben won’t get a contract extension and while he will have to look for a new team, there are a few possibilities he is considering.
In fact, Robben could follow his former teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger and move to the MLS. China and Qatar are also possibilities for the former Real Madrid and Chelsea star, and he is talking about this with his inner circle.
“That’s exactly the current topic of conversation at my kitchen table at the moment, when talking to friends and family,” Robben said when asked whether he could imagine seeing out his career in the United States, China or Doha.
“Now is the time that I have to make a decision. A few years ago, it was usually relatively straightforward but I am approaching the end [of my career] now and I have a lot to think about. It’s not easy but it’s also exciting. A lot is still open but I have already ruled out certain things in my head — but they are staying private,” he added.
Robben has won six Bundesliga titles and four DFB Pokals during his time at the club. He also scored Bayern’s late winner in the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund in 2013. He is convinced he as a few years left in him, so it seems we will see a bit more of one of the best wingers in the past decade. It’s not a matter of “if”, but rather “where” he will play out the final years of his career.
