Michy Batshuayi hasn’t lived up to the hype surrounding him since he joined Chelsea, and the Belgian international has struggled to settle at the Premier League giants following his move from Marseille.
The 24-year-old has registered just three Premier League starts and, while he has logged 28 appearances coming off the bench, he just hasn’t been effective. The Belgium international has 17 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions for The Blues, and he doesn’t figure to have regular playing time any time soon with the presence of Alvaro Morata on the squad.
Ergo, a loan deal would make the most sense for both parties. Batshuayi could have a chance to re-establish his value elsewhere, while Chelsea would free up a squad spot to possibly bring another player.
There are a few suitors taking a close look at the former Marseille star. Both Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla are reportedly keen on taking Batshuayi on loan for the remainder of the season, as both could use the attacking depth. BVB seem to have the inside track, though, especially if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaves the side in the coming days.
Batshuayi has proven his worth at the international stage, however, registering five goals in just 13 caps with The Red Devils while battling for playing time with names such as Romelu Lukaku, Christian Benteke, and Dries Mertens.
There’s no question he can get the job done, he just needs to prove it. And either Dortmund or Sevilla would give him the chance he currently doesn’t have at Chelsea.
