Manchester United’s already slim hopes of signing Antoine Griezmann next summer suffered a further and potentially fatal blow, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The family of the 26-year-old Atletico Madrid striker are said to have met with Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu to finalise personal terms ahead of the France international moving to the Camp Nou next summer.

Griezmann’s contract reportedly includes a €100m release clause which the Blaugrana are prepared to meet. Diego Simeone recently accepted the inevitability of his star striker’s departure, with the Argentinean manager keen to point out that the club had survived big players leaving in the past and would do so in the future.

Bookmakers agree. The prospect of Griezmann joining is viewed as remote with odds of 8/1 quoted for a deal to be agreed before the next transfer window closes.

If the deal is to happen, it will be a big summer for the Catalans. Philippe Coutinho, 25, is expected to join from Liverpool while Palmeiras defender Yerry Mina, 23, is also a target.

However, Griezmann is their priority and tying up the deal early will suit the club and free their energies for the other targets. With the World Cup curtailing the transfer window, Barcelona are keen to complete as much business as possible before the season is over.
