Liverpool aren’t putting all their goalkeeping eggs in one basket with reports in the Guardian that the Reds submitted a €70m bid for Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker, 25.

It’s understood Roma want another €5m before agreeing any deal for the Brazilian. As yet, James Pallotta, the Giallorossi president, hasn’t called the reports a joke as he did when it was claimed earlier in the summer that Real Madrid had agreed terms with the Romans.

The Reds are already in talks with Jasper Cillessen, 29, suggesting that Jurgen Klopp’s patience with both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet has snapped.

Both proved horrendously inconsistent culminating in Karius’ dismal display in Kyiv during last season’s Champions League final. His pre-season outing at Tranmere suggested the unfortunate German has yet to recover his confidence.

Bringing in two new goalkeepers this summer would assuage many Reds fans fears about the coming Premier League season. Many believe that with a strong goalkeeper, Liverpool could end their 28-year title wait.

Liverpool tracked Becker through most of last season when he was elevated to Roma’s first-choice goalkeeper after Polish international Wojciech Szczesny decamped to Juventus.

Since then, between the sticks for both the Giallorossi and Brazil, his reputation grows on an almost game-by-game basis.
