With their pre-season friendlies under way, Manchester United have moved to bring the saga over 23 year-old Paul Pogba’s future to a close.
A world-record fee of £105m is expected to be agreed with the payment terms and bonuses remaining outstanding, shattering the current record of £86m Real Madrid paid Tottenham Hotspur for Gareth Bale, 27.
Pogba is currently on holiday in the USA, photographed on separate occasions with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 34, and Romelu Lukaku, 23. He is expected to put pen to paper on a 5-year deal reportedly worth £202,000 per week when he returns next week.
It’s understood that he could undergo a medical as early as Tuesday with the move completed shortly afterwards.
The transfer represents an incredible about-turn in fortunes for the French international who left Old Trafford under a cloud in 2011. Frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities, Pogba refused a new deal from Sir Alex Ferguson and joined Juventus. United were furious when they received just £800,000 from a tribunal ruling, in ‘training fees’ for the youngster.
