FC Barcelona strengthened their defence during the recent transfer window with the arrival of Yerry Mina from Palmeiras, but the Catalan side will continue trying to sign young talents to lower the average age of the squad.
And according to a report from El Mundo Deportivo, Los Blaugranas have once again added a defensive reinforcement since they have reached a deal to acquire Clement Lenglet, from Sevilla.
The deal got completed rather quickly, but there were a few complications at first. Lenglet didn’t want to join Barca at first since he thought he wouldn’t have many chances to break into the first-team picture, but has apparently changed his mind. And now it seems he believes he can surpass both Mina and Thomas Vermaelen in the pecking order.
Lenglet has been one of the best centre-backs in La Liga this season playing for Sevilla, though, and his playing style should allow him to settle rather quickly at Barcelona. And considering he has an enormous amount of potential, he has everything to become a mainstay at the club for years to come.
It is believed that the Catalans have decided to match the player’s €30 million release clause, while they are close to reaching an agreement with the defender as well. The deal has not been made official yet, but all signs indicate he will become Barca’s first signing for the 2018-19 season sooner than later.
Lenglet has been in excellent form since arriving from Nancy roughly 18 months ago, scoring 3 goals in 51 La Liga appearances.
