Mention a talented Brazilian player and inevitably the names of Manchester City and Paris St-Germain are in the frame to sign him. Add Atletico Madrid to the list of clubs pursuing Vasco da Gama forward Paulinho, reports the Daily Mail.
The youngster has been capped 21 times for Brazil at Under-17 level and is set to be one of the summer transfer window’s ‘battle royales’. That was assured when he was named the Brasileiro Serie A Young Player of the Year.
When he scored in Vasco da Gama’s 2 – 0 win over Universidad de Concepcion in the Copa Libertadores during February, Paulinho was the first player born in the 21st century to find the net in the competition.
To whet the clubs’ appetites, Vasco da Gama admitted the player has a £25m buy-out clause after Atletico Madrid had a £12m bid turned down last year.
Paulinho’s availability comes as a relief to City who expect Bobby Duncan, 16, to join Liverpool when his contract ends this summer. City are also talking to Barcelona youngster Adria Bernabe, 16, whose agents are former Catalan legends Carles Puyol and Ivan de la Pena.
The Mail report states the pair “are interested” in a move for their client to the Etihad which ought to make them popular at the Camp Nou. Arsenal, as ever, are also sniffing around Bernabe.
