The search for the next Liverpool goalkeeper took a surprising turn with news is their interest in Barcelona reserve Jasper Cillessen, reports talkSPORT.

AS Roma’s continued denials about the availability of Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, 25, are being taken seriously at Anfield and while they hope to broach the subject of the Giallorossi goalkeeper when the two sides meet in Champions League semi-final later this month, their attention turned to former Ajax custodian Cillessen.

Marc ter Stegen has made the Number One shirt his own at the Camp Nou and Cillessen is now firmly in Jurgen Klopp’s sights with Simon Mignolet, 31, expected to be the main fall guy this summer.

Neither he nor Loris Karius has filled the former Dortmund manager with confidence although former Mainz 05 ‘keeper Karius is beginning to show glimpses of consistency.

Liverpool aren’t the only ones interested in Cillessen. The Netherlands international is also interesting Napoli and Atletico Madrid, who are seemingly resigned to losing Jan Oblak, 25, this summer.

Arsenal have not hidden their admiration of the Rojiblanco goalkeeper whose contract reportedly includes an £85m release clause.

With Raul Sanellhi formerly of Barcelona and Nike, the Gunners are looking to use his contacts to broker a deal for the highly-rated Slovenian.
