The Independent reports the Columbian international has told the Amsterdam-based club that he wants to move to North London. It’s suggested Tottenham are ready with a £28m bid for the centre back but that the Dutch giants want £35m.
Marc Overmars, a legendary player for Ajax and now the club’s sporting director, failed to persuade Sanchez to sign a new contract this summer. It’s believed that an offer from Barcelona was rejected by the player as he feared he wouldn’t get a great deal of playing time.
No such worries exist with Tottenham. Last season’s Premier League runners-up are believed to be willing to sell Kevin Wimmer, with Southampton said to be interested as Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool all circle for Virgil Van Dijk’s services.
Ajax hold the whip hand in negotiations with Sanchez joining last summer and with four year’s remaining on his contract. In no great hurry to sell, the Dutch club are waiting to see how their European qualifying plans progress before making a final decision on his future.
Sanchez was a pivotal member of the Ajax team which reached last season’s Europa League final.
