One of the most in-demand midfielders in Europe will reportedly be available next summer.
Fabinho has said he will leave AS Monaco next summer, as Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are reported to be among the clubs interested in him. The talented midfielder was expected to leave the Ligue 1 side last season, but neither Manchester United nor PSG completed reported moves for him.
United chose to sign Matic, while PSG stood pad and instead acquired attacking-minded players such as Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. But Fabinho wants to move to a bigger club after seeing several teammates leave the club during the last few months, and he is all but gone to a more competitive environment.
He told reporters on Wednesday that the club had given him their word that he could leave despite a contract that runs until 2021 and said: “Normally, it’s my last season at Monaco. I don’t think there’s the possibility to leave [before then].
“I’ve not had any contact and I haven’t asked to leave in January. I’m calm at Monaco, and I wouldn’t be able to play in the Champions League with another team.”
It is worth noting that Fabinho hasn’t been the same player he was last season, though. He suffered a dip in form, and it is likely that a change of scenery is what he needs right now.
Fabinho might not make the Brazil squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup due to his dip in form, and it’s clear he does not want to be in Monaco any longer. Expect a bidding war for his services, as versatile players like him are always useful in top clubs.
