Along with Manchester United, it would be fair to call Tottenham Hotspur as one of the biggest disappointments in the 2019-20 Premier League season so far.

The Spurs have not looked like the convincing side that reached the UEFA Champions League Final last term and, to make things even more complicated, they are in danger of losing their best player, Christian Eriksen, as a free agent next season. Considering that scenario, the future looks blurry for the London-based outfit.

However, Tottenham can’t simply sleep on the fact that they might lose Eriksen and won’t replace him. They still have a talented attacking line, but adding a true playmaker to replace Eriksen might be what they need going forward. And with that in mind, the Spurs are widely expected to renew their efforts to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes in January.

The 25-year-old Portugal international was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham this past summer, although both Manchester City and Manchester United were keen to sign him as well. In the end, Sporting decided to keep him although now it’s seems clearer than ever that they’re going to let him leave sooner than later. Tottenham are expected to be quite aggressive on his pursuit.

Fernandes enjoyed a stellar 2018-19 season with Sporting where he chipped in with 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions for Sporting. He is already at seven goals and 10 assists in 2019/20.
