When it seems things can’t get any worse for Arsenal, they do. The Gunners have endured a nightmarish start to their season in the Premier League and won’t play in the UEFA Champions League either, so it’s a different year for The Gunners. But as if that wasn’t enough, they are on the verge of losing their two best players sooner than later.
Everyone knows the transfer saga that involved Alexis Sanchez and Manchester City, and by now it’s quite clear the Chilean star wants to leave the Emirates Stadium as soon as possible. But there is a big chance Mesut Özil leaves the club as well considering his contract expires in June.
There was hope of Arsenal retaining the German international in order to make him the star of the club moving forward, but that’s quite unlikely now. According to a report from SportBild, both parties stopped talks in February and are yet to reopen negotiations. It seems Arsenal are not interested in an extension, and Özil is keen to play elsewhere.
If the latter is the case, then the former Real Madrid star could get his wish granted quite soon. Unless Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger can convince him to stay, the German will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs from January 1, 2018.
Losing Alexis and Özil would be quite a shock for The Gunners, but it seems that will be the most likely scenario unless something magical happens over the next three months.
