FC Barcelona will likely be active in the transfer market after losing the Liga title to Real Madrid this past season, and one area where they need to improve is their midfield.
The team has not been able to find a defensive-minded midfielder that can cooperate with Sergio Busquets on that side of the ball, but they are reportedly interested in signing PSG star Marco Verratti. There is only one problem, though – the French giants have listed the Italian international as unavailable for a potential transfer.
Speaking with Spanish newspaper MARCA, an unnamed director from the French club ruled out the possibilty of Verratti moving to Camp Nou during the summer. “He is not worth 80 or 100 million. He is not available, period.”
It makes sense for PSG to try and hold on to Verratti as long as they can. The 24-year-old is widely considered one on the top defensive midfielders in Europe, and even though PSG might never be able to compete for a UEFA Champions League title, they definitively are one of the Top 10 teams in Europe and Verratti seems to be a key part of the team’s future plans.
Verratti finished another stellar season for Le Parisiens, notching three goals and seven assists in 43 games across all competitions.
