Thomas Lemar was bound to complete a move to the English Premier League both 12 and six months ago, as Arsenal and Liverpool were vying for his signature. However, recent information has indicated that the Monaco playmaker and French international is now only details away from moving to Spain.
According to a report from AS, Lemar is quite close to join Atletico Madrid during the upcoming transfer window, as Los Colchoneros currently sit at top of the race to land the 22-year-old.
Liverpool and Arsenal both remain keen to acquire the talented playmaker, who can play all over the attacking third, but both have had substantial bids rejected over the past few months. The situation with Atletico is different, as many suggest the player is the one pushing for completion of the deal.
Now comes the hardest part, however. Since Lemar is under contract with Monaco until June 2020, both parties need to reach an agreement before any deal can be announced.
Lemar enjoyed another stellar season for Monaco during the past term thanks to two goals and 10 assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances. Throughout his career has registered 22 goals and 32 assists in 127 appearances for Les Monegasques. He has also accounted for three goals in 12 caps with the France national team, but that number is set to increase during the upcoming 2018 World Cup.
