Benfica star Gedson Fernandes has been attracting lots of interest in recent weeks, and the latest side to get linked with the Portuguese sensation has been Tottenham Hotspur.
The UEFA Champions League finalists will have “substantial funds” to spend over the upcoming summer – according to reports – and one player that Mauricio Pochettino wants is the 20-year-old central midfielder. Mature beyond his years and quite composed on the ball, he would fit perfectly in the Spurs’ playing style.
However, Tottenham are not the only EPL side that has been scouting Fernandes closely in recent months since both Liverpool and Manchester United have also expressed interest in the talented playmaker who seems set to leave Benfica sooner than later.
It is believed that either side that wants to sign Fernandes will need to submit a bid of around £35 million to acquire him. Tottenham’s plan would be to part ways with fringe squad players, while the names of Kieran Trippier and Victor Wanyama has been listed as potential departures as well.
Fernandes, who was promoted to Benfica’s first team at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, has already made 21 Primeira Liga appearances this term. He hasn’t scored, but has delivered three assists. He also registered six Champions League appearances, with one goal and one assist.
