One of the hottest topics during the transfer market has been the potential transfer of Luka Modric, who at point seemed set to leave Real Madrid and join Inter Milan. However, that does not seem to be the case anymore, and recent signs have indicated he is staying in Madrid for another year.
According to a report from AS, the Croatian playmaker is now keen to another season at Real Madrid and it is going to be a special year, as it will be the first one without Cristiano Ronaldo and as such, Modric will be one of the most important players on the team. The former Tottenham star is excited by the opportunity to be one of the leaders of the squad.
Of course, his extended stay at Madrid also comes with a wage increase and now he will be paid the same as Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos, two of the highest-paid players on the current squad. But Modric also decided to evaluate everything with his family and based on that, he chose to stay at Madrid.
Earlier this month, reports said Modric was planning to ask Madrid president Florentino Perez for permission to leave, despite Perez saying that only another club triggering his €750 million release clause could bring about an exit. But that’s all in the past now, and the Golden Ball winner in the 2018 FIFA World Cup has closed the chapter on his potential transfer for good.
