The Chelsea midfielder is deemed surplus to requirements by new head coach Maurizio Sarri and is set to leave Stamford Bridge this month.
Signed last summer for £40m from AS Monaco, the 23-year-old failed to make an impression during his first season in West London despite starting 25 Premier League matches. He made a further four appearances from the bench, scoring two goals.
Sarri and his coaching staff needed to make their decisions quickly and the France international didn’t show them he was a key member of the squad.
The twelve-month loan deal is likely to include an option to buy next summer.
The arrival of Jorginho, 25, from Napoli, Sarri’s old stomping ground, signalled one of the central midfielders at the club would leave. Bakayoko is the odd man out.
Reports claim the player is disappointed by the decision but is aware his chances of first-team football are limited this season. He didn’t feature in the Community Shield squad last weekend, with Danny Drinkwater and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the bench.
With N’Golo Kante still to return, Sarri’s first-choice midfield is shaping to include Jorginho and Fabregas alongside the diminutive Frenchman.
