Speculation is rife that Manchester United will make a move for the former Tottenham winger in the summer with Jose Mourinho a long-term admirer.
Criticism of Bale is frequent and former Real general manager Jorge Valdano added to that with claims that nothing the Welshman achieved during his time at the Bernabeu made him worth the €100m the Spanish club paid for him in 2013.
Barnett, who rose to prominence as Paul Gascoigne’s agent thirty years ago, claimed the 28-year-old “loves Real Madrid and Real Madrid love Gareth”.
He continued, “All this talk about leaving is written by reporters who have no idea what is going on and who need to write something and don’t care if it is true or not.”
Valdano’s comments followed his performance in the Madrid derby last weekend. The former Argentina international said “[Bale’s] movement was good, he gave the assist to Cristiano… the problem is that nothing that Bale does is worth €100 million, and that is the figure he wears on his jersey.”
The speculation is without foundation, according to Barnett, although he did not deny there was interest in his client. Whether that manifests into something more tangible remains to be seen.
