Hearts Swoop for Manchester United Left Back

Heart of Midlothian have landed Manchester United youngster Demetri Mitchell on loan for the rest of the season, reports Sky Sports.

The Scottish Premiership club expect the deal to be completed in time for Mitchell to be included in their squad for next Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash with Edinburgh rivals Hibernian.

Hearts are currently in Spain, taking advantage of Scottish football’s mid-season break. They face Vitesse Arnhem and German side Nurnberg in two friendlies to be played behind closed doors.

Craig Levein has struggled with left-backs this season. Ashley Smith-Brown and Rafal Grzelak failed to impress after arriving during last summer’s transfer window and Hearts know they need to seal defensive holes if they are to overhaul Hibs, as well as Rangers who occupy the final Europa League spot at the moment.

Mitchell made his Manchester United as a substitute during the 2 – 0 win over Crystal Palace on the final day of last season. He has yet to feature for the club during 2017-18.

The young left-back has featured at junior levels for England and was a member of the Under-17 squad which won the 2014 European Championships.

He will become the 10th Manchester United player to be loaned out this season, with James Wilson heading to Sheffield United earlier in the week.
