Aaron Ramsey is set to leave Arsenal after more than a decade in north London after the Gunners pulled out of talks over a new deal. It’s left the way open, according to the Daily Mirror, for Manchester United and Liverpool to squabble over who will sign him.
The 27-year-old Wales international is out of contract next June. Having stalled talks until he knew which direction the club wanted to move in. With the sacking of Arsene Wenger last season, Ramsey appeared to be set to stay as the Unai Emery revolution gathered pace.
However, no sooner had real progress in talks been made than Arsenal withdrew their contract offer. It’s now certain the Welsh midfielder will leave the club although the Gunners must hope an acceptable offer is made during the January window if they are to recover a fee for him.
It’s no coincidence that the north London club has announced a new kit deal with Adidas worth up to £65m per year in recent days. Ramsey salary would eat into a lot of that and the Gunners decided it will be money better spent elsewhere.
While Liverpool and United are in prime position from the Premier League clubs, AC Milan are hovering in the background. Ramsey is reported to be close to the Gunners soon-to-be-departed CEO Ivan Gazidis who is taking up a similar role with the Rossoneri.
Italian media claims that the Milanese club will look to sign Ramsey next summer are fading into the background chatter. However, with the player never denying his desire to play abroad, can the Serie A side steal a march on everyone and agree a deal in January?
