It looks like Matthijs De Ligt’s days at Ajax are getting to an end. After Ajax’s heartbreaking loss to Tottenham in the dying minutes of the return leg in Amsterdam, the Dutch club is out of the race to become European champions and now the stories about their players moving away are resurfacing.

Matthijs De Ligt was expected to leave the club this summer and now club director Edwin van der Sar confirmed it, whilst adding a potential destination of De Ligt into the conversation.

“I think these will be De Ligt’s final games with Ajax, but I hope he goes out on a high,” Van der Sar told Sky Sport Italia. “He’s been here since he was a child and will end up at a big club.” On De Ligt – who scored the opening goal in the Champions League semifinal second leg before Lucas Moura’s hat-trick sent Ajax home – Van der Sar added: “I think he’ll go to England or Spain.”
