The summer’s biggest transfer saga is set to end today with Paul Pogba, 23, arriving in Manchester to undergo his medical.
It’s the final step in the protracted move which will see Juventus net £89m and Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola, £20m, in a record breaking deal.
The French international became football’s hottest property when Real Madrid sparked a bidding war with their initial approach for the midfielder. Despite making the early running, the Spanish Giants were sunk by the determination of the United hierarchy to make the deal happen.
It means that the new United manager has brought all of his main summer transfer targets to Old Trafford. He delivered the first silverware of his reign at Wembley yesterday with a 2 – 1 win over Premier League champions Leicester City in the Community Shield.
Post-match, Mourinho said, “United is the perfect club to bring him to the level he wants to be. The Premier League is the perfect habitat for that.
“If you want to be the best player in the world, if you go to Barcelona or Real Madrid you are in trouble.
“I don’t think Messi and Ronaldo will let you do it.
“Here he has the conditions to develop with a team that wants to bring United to the top again.
“We have everything to give him and we know the reasons he wants to come to us.
“He wants to be part of the Man United project.”
In the wake of the news of Pogba’s medical, the odds on United being crowned Premier League champions this season dramatically shortened with many bookmakers installing the as favourites.
