While two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs made their interest known, Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred told the world he was waiting for Pep Guardiola to call him, claims Brazilian media outlet Globoesporte.
The Gunners need to bring in world-class reinforcements to replace the soon-to-leave Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez, who is bound for Manchester City. Arsène Wenger hinted that the club would not be making any signings this winter which suits Shakhtar, whose £30m fee would not prove a problem to the wealthy north London club.
Recently called into Tite’s Brazil squad for the final World Cup qualifiers, starred in Shakhtar’s 2 – 1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League group stage. His performance was pivotal in inflicting the only defeat suffered by the Premier League leaders this season so far.
Guardiola reportedly identified Fred as a long-term replacement for Yaya Toure, 34, and believes with four other Brazilians – Danilo, Ederson, Fernandinho, and Gabriel Jesus – in the City squad, the midfielder would have no problems settling into life in the city and Premier League.
