Goncalo Guedes has been one of the brightest young players in La Liga this season. However, the Valencia star might not be in the team for a long period of time.
The 20-year-old Portuguese winger has been an absolute gem for Los Che, but the former Benfica prospect – who can play all over the attacking third as a creator or a forward – has apparently decided on his immediate future, and would be keen to return to PSG once his current season-long loan deal at Mestalla expires.
Guedes was sent to Spain since PSG’s manager Unai Emery believed there was too much competition for him to gain enough playing time this season. However, Guedes knows what he is capable of and recently told MARCA about his plans for the short-term future.
“I want to work as well as possible and earn playing time,” he told Marca. “I would like to return to Paris to fight for a place with the best players in the world. However, I am happy here — I do not know what will happen.”
Based on his current form, there is no question Guedes could eventually force his way into PSG’s starting XI, but the competition will be tough. Neymar and Kylian Mbappe won’t go anywhere, so the former Benfica star will likely have to battle with Julian Draxler, Angel Di Maria, Javier Pastore and Lucas Moura for ONE starting spot and a place on the bench.
The numbers back up Guedes’ impressive season in Spain, however, as the winger has three goals and five assists in nine Liga appearances for Valencia in the current term.
