Spurs Enter Race To Sign Coveted Ajax Youngster

Frenkie de Jong was one of the hottest names in the transfer rumour mill during the final days of August, but he stood pat at Ajax despite increasing interest from FC Barcelona to acquire. However, Los Blaugranas could be in line to face some stiff competition for the services of the Dutch playmaker.

According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for the Ajax star midfielder in the January transfer window. De Jong, who earned his first cup with the Netherlands national team this Thursday against Peru, is considered to be one of the brightest talents in Europe and the Spurs are keen to acquire him, continuing what has been a successful transfer partnership with the Eredivisie giants.

Reports say that Spurs’ scouts have visited the Amsterdam Arena to check out the highly-rated midfielder to add to their squad that has previous links with the Dutch side. Christian Eriksen, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen all joined from the club and Toby Alderweireld developed their too.

The 21-year-old has impressed in his first 37 first-team matches appearances with Ajax and Tottenham are willing to pay the £40million Ajax are asking to let him go. Will they complete the move, or will Barcelona stand in their way to sign him?

The central midfielder has also been linked with Borussia Dortmund.
