Tottenham Hotspur are bracing themselves for a busy summer fending off the interest of other clubs for their star players, as well as head coach Mauricio Pochettino. The first to depart may be Christian Eriksen claim the Independent, with Real Madrid preparing a £100m deal for next summer.
The Spanish giants are in a mess this season domestically, having slipped to 5th place in La Liga at the weekend following their shock 2 – 0 home defeat to Real Sociedad. While the Madrid hierarchy won’t write-off this season, Los Blancos are already planning for next season.
Tottenham’s mercurial midfielder enters the final year of his contract this summer and the club is keen to tie Eriksen down to a long-term deal. Whilst he is happy at Wembley, in his mind there is still another chapter of his career to write at one of Europe’s elite clubs.
In the meantime, talks between Tottenham and the player’s representatives stalled, offering hope to interested clubs.
Barcelona’s interest in the player, originally stemming from Eriksen being a contingency plan whilst they pursued Philippe Coutinho, 26, last year. However, with cashflow tight, Barca are not willing to invest that sum in a midfielder.
Bayern Munich are rumoured to be interested but “sources close to the player” claim Eriksen will stay in North London if he cannot get his dream move to La Liga.
