Real Madrid have been linked to a plethora of players over the last few weeks. However, one area where the Liga giants could use reinforcements is the midfield zone. Croatian starlet Luka Modric is not getting any younger, and Madrid do not have much depth if any of the three starters – Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro – go down with an injury.

With that in mind, Los Merengues are apparently considering a move for former Real Betis and current Napoli star Fabian Ruiz. The central midfielder has improved drastically since completing a Serie A switch, and now Zinedine Zidane would be open to sign him during the course of the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to a report from ESPN, the first meeting between both clubs took place last month. Even though negotiations are still at a very early stage, the Spain international is keen to complete a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. He reportedly ranks Madrid ahead of other teams that have asked for him, such as Manchester City.

Real Madrid would have to agree a transfer fee with Napoli to get the deal done, though. The Serie A side is reluctant to part ways with the Spaniard, and they are reportedly asking for €80 to €100 million to let the 23-year-old leave.
